PROGRAM DESCRIPTION

Speech – Language Pathology is an allied medical field that is engaged in the diagnosis and rehabilitation of communication disorders, including speech, hearing, language, swallowing and oral function disorders in both the adult and pediatric population.Speech – Language pathologists (SLPs) are professionals trained in the following:

  • identification of communication, swallowing and oral function disorders;
  • provision of habilitation/rehabilitation services appropriate to the problems identified; and
  • making referrals to medical and other professional services necessary for rehabilitation.

The B.S. Speech – Language Pathology is a four-year educational program composed of two years of general education courses, two years of professional courses, and one year of clinical internship. It aims to produce professionals capable of addressing health care needs of children and adults with communication, swallowing and oral-function disorders in a variety of different contexts including schools, hospitals, clinics / centers for special needs and through private practice.
