Dancing and teaching in perfect sync: The story of Sky Bautista

Dancing and teaching in perfect sync: The story of Sky Bautista

Your career provides you with a living, but your passion keeps you alive. When those two things are found in one, the potential for success is incalculable. That is proving to be the case for a young Thomasian professional, Sky Bautista, who finished her pre-school education degree from UST in 2010.

Sky owns a dancing school, Sky Dance Avenue, based mainly in Hongkong, where she considers dancing as “a beautiful art that taps all learners’ ability to move, develop, and most especially, express.” The program for kids and teens includes the different dance genres, like jazz, hiphop, and cheerleading, among others. Dealing with young kids, she knows the importance of the ability to express, and over the years, she has created a spectrum of dance arts through her experience and knowledge both as a teacher and as a performer. These two things—dancing and teaching—for her make up a continuous process for growth.

Not one to forget her roots, Sky’s school touches base with local institutions in the Philippines, such as Valle Verde Country Club, Alphaland City Club, College of the Holy Spirit – Manla, and the School Room in Ortigas, through after-school dance programs for kids and teens.

Sky credits part of her current success to the formation she received in the College of Education and the Salinggawi Dance Troupe, where she learned the value of respect and strong work ethic. The former Salinggawi Dance Troupe team captain said that these two groups exposed her to diversity, which became an advantage considering that she runs a program with a multinational cohort of learners. This training likewise helped her cope with the demands of being a performer for Disney, which was her career prior to putting up Sky Dance Avenue.

As a young professional who inspires fellow young and aspiring professionals, Sky considers teachers as “future influencers,” who must remember that “passion will always be [their] motivation to start believing that [they] can make dreams happen.” Sky reminds future educators that success entails hard work, commitment, patience, and dedication, all of which will keep one grounded.
